Anthony Davis starts season with ugly shooting performance in Pelicans' loss image

While last year's NBA MVP, Stephen Curry, was dropping 40 at Oracle Arena on Tuesday night, Anthony Davis, who many believe is a future MVP, was a dropping a dud. At least by his standards.

Davis was surprisingly underwhelming in the Pelicans' 111-95 loss to the Warriors on the NBA’s opening night, scoring 18 points on just 4-of-20 shooting.

That night was a far cry from the two-time All-Star's average of 24 points a game a year ago. By comparison, Kendrick Perkins, a guy who has averaged less than five points a game each of the last three seasons, was a perfect 5 for 5 on the night.

Davis also struggled on the boards, grabbing just six rebounds, and he turned the ball over five times. He did, however, block three shots, one of which came against Curry, who had a monster first quarter.

Davis will look to improve on his numbers Wednesday night against the Trail Blazers.
