Who is Andy Roeser? 'Clipped' revisits Clippers executive's career under Donald Sterling image

Andy Roeser was the president of the Clippers during the Donald Sterling era, working with the team for 30 years. His role with the team has been recreated in FX's series "Clipped," airing on Hulu.

"Clipped" is based on "The Sterling Affairs," an ESPN 30 for 30 podcast about the downfall of Clippers owner Sterling, who was banned from the NBA for life for violating "league rules through his expressions of offensive and hurtful views."

"Clipped" gets some stuff right and some stuff wrong about Roeser. Here are the facts about the former NBA executive.

Who is Andy Roeser?

Roeser joined the Clippers in 1984 after graduating from Michigan State University with a Bachelor's in Business Administration and working at Ernst & Young for three years. He was Sterling's right-hand man, negotiating contracts and running other business operations.

Roeser was also in charge of putting out many of Sterling's fires, including those involving Sterling's wife, Shelly, and his mistress, V. Stiviano. As ESPN's Ramona Shelburne stated on her Sterling Affairs podcast, "Shelly would call team president Andy Roeser demanding that V not be allowed in the building. Then Donald would call Roeser and ask him to leave four tickets for her."

Roeser was involved in Elgin Baylor's discrimination lawsuit against the team. Roeser was named as one of the plaintiffs in the suit, along with Sterling and the NBA. That case was eventually dismissed.

Roeser took a lot of heat during the aftermath of Sterling's racist rants after he released a statement on the team's behalf questioning if recordings of him had been altered

"I think that rubbed a lot of people the wrong way," Clippers coach Doc Rivers said back in 2014. "Andy right away said that was the wrong statement, so he apologized for that, and then we moved on."

Roeser was eventually asked by the league to take an indefinite leave of absence. He has not worked in the NBA since that mandate.

Where is Andy Roeser now?

Roeser started his own company called Roeser Management Group after being let go by the Clippers, according to his LinkedIn page. He provides "management and advisory services for clients, including sports and live entertainment, commercial real estate, property management, and start-up entities."

Roeser also briefly worked as an Interim President of the San Diego Gulls, a minor league hockey team, and as the CEO of Second Home, a workspace company.

Who plays Andy Roeser in Clipped?

Kelly AuCoin plays the role of Roeser in the show "Clipped." He's best known for his role as "Dollar" Bill Stern on the show "Billions."

AuCoin has a long list of TV credits including appearances on "The Girl from Plainville" and "The Americans." He resides in Oregon and considers himself a Blazers fanatic.
