Celtics forward Al Horford has been ruled out for at least Wednesday’s game against the Bulls, the team announced, as he goes through the NBA’s concussion protocol.

According to the Celtics, Horford, who is averaging 12.0 points and 5.3 rebounds, reported being hit in the head during practice Monday. He experienced no symptoms until practice Tuesday.

The league's concussion protocol will require him first to complete a series of tests without showing any symptoms of a concussion, and then a member of the Celtics medical staff will consult with a representative from the NBA's concussion program.

If he experiences symptoms during the initial testing, the testing will stop.

According to The Boston Globe, Celtics coach Brad Stevens has a couple of options in Horford's absence: He could move Tyler Zeller into the starting five or go with a smaller lineup and move Jae Crowder to power forward.
