When the Philadelphia 76ers were in full rebuild mode in the 2010s, every NBA Draft selection was a swing for the fences.
2014 second-round pick Jerami Grant panned out, but not in a Sixers uniform. He played just two mediocre seasons in Philadelphia before spending time with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, and Portland Trail Blazers.
The Blazers are not getting much use out of the Most Improved Player runner-up, as they're in the midst of a rebuild. This is why Bleacher Report proposed a blockbuster trade, sending Grant to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for a package highlighted by guard D'Angelo Russell and big man Jarred Vanderbilt.
"The Lakers have kept surprisingly quiet this offseason," B/R's Zach Buckley wrote. "There's still time to get a ceiling-raising deal done, though, and adding Grant should qualify. As a third option—or even fourth if Austin Reaves authors a breakout effort—Grant is more than equipped for the job."
The full trade details are as follows:
Lakers receive: Grant and Duop Reath
Blazers receive: Russell, Vanderbilt, Jalen Hood-Schifino, a 2029 first-round pick and a 2025 second-round pick (via LAC)
Grant averaged a commendable 21 points and 3.5 rebounds on 45.1% shooting, but these numbers would likely drop in Los Angeles. As Buckley noted, Grant could flawlessly fill a void behind the superstar tandem of LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
