Minnesota Timberwolves guard Donte DiVincenzo revealed some strong resentment towards his former coach Tom Thibodeau of the New York Knicks during an on-court altercation on Sunday.
DiVincenzo, a fixture in the Knicks' most recent playoff run, was traded to Minnesota on October 2 in the blockbuster deal that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to New York.
While reports that DiVincenzo was unhappy with the deal have been denied by some, DiVincenzo showed plainly on Sunday that the trade left him feeling slighted by Thibodeau.
When DiVincenzo stepped up to the free throw line in the first quarter at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, he doled out some vitriolic trash talk in the direction of Tom Thibodeau on the sideline, all of which was picked up by the broadcast mics.
"Thanks for the trade Thibs," DiVincenzo hollered out sarcastically while looking over at Thibodeau. "That’s what happens when they let you run the show."
DiVincenzo is obviously feeling some type of way about the trade, and he wasn't afraid to let Thibodeau -- and everyone else -- know exactly what's on his mind.
In DiVincenzo's defense, he was magnificent for the Knicks last season, playing arguably the best basketball of his career.
Apparently, Thibodeau was pulling the strings when New York decided to part ways with DiVincenzo for a chance to acquire Towns.
Now, DiVincenzo is salty about the lack of loyalty and there could be an unexpected Timberwolves-Knicks rivalry brewing.
Expect DiVincenzo to circle all future trips to Madison Square Garden on his calendar.
