The Minnesota Timberwolves haven’t made any groundbreaking moves this month, but they’ve been working to strike deals with unsigned free agents.
On Monday, the organization succeeded in adding two veterans to its roster.
“The Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed to deals with Skylar Mays and Eugene Omoruyi,” HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reported Monday. “Mays appeared in 38 combined games for the Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Lakers last season. Omoruyi appeared in 43 games for the Washington Wizards last season.”
The Trail Blazers signed Mays to a two-way contract to start the year but later handed him a standard deal due to his impressive early-season play.
However, after a rough seven-game stretch between early December and early January, Portland determined it was in their best interest to waive the 6-foot-4 guard. Luckily for Mays, he was offered a two-way contract with the Lakers shortly after. Mays averaged 3.8 points on 43% shooting from the field during the 2023-24 season.
Omoruyi agreed to a two-way deal with the Wizards last summer. He inked a standard contract toward the end of the 2023-24 regular season but failed to retain it heading into his fourth year in the NBA.
The undrafted forward appeared in 44 games between the Dallas Mavericks, Oklahoma City Thunder and Detroit Pistons before joining the Wizards in 2023. He is averaging 5.7 points on 46% shooting from the field for his career.
Although Mays and Omoruyi probably won’t make the Timberwolves’ opening night roster, they’ll have a chance to impress the organization during training camp.
