In November of 2022, Nike ended its relationship with Kyrie Irving after a seven shoe partnership. It is not against their nature to remove themselves from partnerships that may be controversial, but it is also not against it to attach themselves to them a la Colin Kaepernick.
After a troubling year for rising NBA superstar Ja Morant, Nike removed his debut shoe from the website in May of 2023 while issuing a statement of support. Other websites kept his shoe online, but there was concern that his shoe would never make the market.
After almost 30 different colorways on his first signature shoe, news broke this week that the second iteration was on the way:
