The Los Angeles Lakers have fallen short of the ultimate goal in the last four seasons, including missing the postseason altogether in 2022.
The franchise has been about as inconsistent as they come since winning a championship in 2020. Between the coaching situation and the lack of roster adjustments, the team has fallen short every year since they won Banner 17. But with 17 titles, what should fans fear heading into next season?
“Lakers fans should dread the possibility of continuing to have no clear idea past the trade deadline. This team needs to chart its overarching course,” writes Dan Favale of Bleacher Report. “Just about any direction would be welcomed from a franchise that's providing its fanbase with very little to absolutely none.”
With LeBron James in the back half of his career and Anthony Davis set to turn 32 before the season ends, the Lakers' window isn’t getting any bigger. It’s clear general manager Rob Pelinka seems to think the talent on the roster is enough, but he seems to be banking on JJ Redick being the answer more than anything.
If the Lakers don’t end this season with at least a clear sign of direction moving forward, LA fans could see their worst nightmare come to life.
