Much of the media fails to make sense of the Los Angeles Lakers hiring former analyst JJ Redick, who has no professional coaching experience, as the heir to Darvin Ham.
Former NFL lineback turned analyst Emmanuel Acho is perhaps the most frustrated of all, sounding off on the Lakers' front office in a recent episode of Speak.
“I can no longer take the Lakers seriously. Not only can I not take the Lakers seriously, I am upset with this decision. In life, we've been taught that hard work pays off," Acho said. "You are just getting hired because your friend [LeBron James] is there. JJ Redick has never coached before at any level.”

Acho makes a fair case later in his rant, pointing out the lack of success of players turned coaches right away. Steve Nash's tenure with the Brooklyn Nets comes to mind, as he spent two seasons with a loaded roster, producing a single playoff series win. Alternatively, Redick has been active in the basketball world since the day he retired while also spending much time around some of the smartest minds in basketball.
