The Detroit Pistons are running out of coaching candidates to choose from, but one prominent name remains available.
New Orleans Pelicans' James Borrego is the most popular coaching name left, after the Los Angeles Lakers hired JJ Redick and the Cleveland Cavaliers brought in Kenny Atkinson. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported on the possible connection with Borrego and the Pistons.
"New Orleans associate HC James Borrego was deep into this Cavs' search and sources say that he'll now become a prominent candidate in the Detroit Pistons' search," Wojnarowski wrote. "Borrego worked with new Pistons president Trajan Langdon in New Orleans."

Borrego, who was the Charlotte Hornets' head coach from 2018 to 2022, turned down several other opportunities to be a top assistant with the Pelicans in 2023. It seems he's ready to take the helm of another organization, despite the Pistons' shaky future.
