It didn't take long for a surprise to occur in the NBA Draft, as the Detroit Pistons selected former G League Ignite star Ron Holland at No. 5.
Holland was rumored to fall down draft boards for no particular reason, but the Pistons are putting full confidence in the 18-year-old. He averaged nearly 20 points last season with the Ignite prior to suffering a thumb injury, which sidelined him for some of the season. He added 6.7 rebounds and 2.4 steals to his averages from last year, displaying his all-around skillset. Holland is joining the young core of Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey, Ausar Thompson, and more in Detroit as one of the highest G League Ignite selections in history.
Holland's teammate, Matas Buzelis, is also expected to go off the board somewhere in the lottery.
