The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed center Tristan Thompson to a one-year deal, per Adrian Wojnarowski. This upcoming season will be the 11th of Thompsons 14 seasons in the NBA with the Cavs.
In his career, Thompson has averaged nine points, eight rebounds, and an assist a game. He also was the backup center on the legendary 2015-16 Cavs team that came back from a 3-1 deficit against the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals.
Thompson brings veteran leadership to the Cavs, something they were in desperate need of. The Cavs are a young team, with a lot of talent. They need someone to help focus that talent so they don’t lose sight of what they want; another title for the Cavaliers franchise.
And, since Thompson has played for the Cavs for almost 80% of his career, and played on the team that got the Cavs their sole title, he’ll command respect. He may not be the best player, but he is a veteran who's been to the playoffs multiple times. He may be the key to make the Cavs a true powerhouse.
Deal is now agreed upon and Thompson returns to an Eastern Conference contender that values his leadership for a franchise determined to make a deep playoff run. https://t.co/yuQfEoTOd2
