University of Wisconsin Green Bay coach and radio host Doug Gottlieb defended Boston Celtics’ Derrick White today on X after a fan questioned why White got to play over his Celtics superstar teammate Jayson Tatum.

The fan asked what could Derrick White do that Tatum couldn’t, and that a Team USA replacement such as White getting minutes over an original choice like Tatum was insane.

Gottlieb responded to this tweet, saying White didn’t need the ball to contribute, and that they are completely different players, at different positions, with different skill sets. White has more experience on the international stage as well, as this is third event and Tatum’s second.

According to Coach Steve Kerr of Team USA, Tatum will see action on July 31st against South Sudan at 3pm EST.
