On Mother’s Day, the Atlanta Hawks landed the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, despite having just a 3% chance to win the lottery.
This marks the first time in franchise history that the Hawks will have the first overall pick. Here’s a look at how fans reacted to Atlanta earning the top selection.

It should come as no surprise that fans instantly called for Atlanta to hit the reset button and move Trae Young. The backcourt tandem of Young and Dejounte Murray has not worked out as hoped, and there were already plenty of rumors that the Hawks would move one or both players.
Now, the Hawks can have a fresh start with a top prospect such as Alexandre Sarr or Donovan Clingan who they can build around going forward. Young is likely high on the San Antonio Spurs' wish list as they search for a guard to pair alongside generational talent Victor Wembanyama. The Spurs own the fourth and eighth picks in the first round, giving them plenty of assets to acquire the 25-year-old star.

Others took the more positive route, envisioning a future duo of Young and their No. 1 pick. With the draft less than two months away, Hawks general manager Landry Fields has plenty of work to do.
