NASCAR's Legacy Motor Club makes key signing from rival team image

Legacy Motor Club has made headlines by securing the expertise of Brian Campe, a veteran motorsports engineer from the prestigious Hendrick Motorsports. This decisive recruitment, co-orchestrated by Legacy's co-owners Jimmie Johnson and Maury Gallagher, aims to address the team's recent struggles and elevate its standing within NASCAR.

Brian Campe brings with him more than two decades of high-level motorsport engineering experience, having spent formative years with Hendrick Motorsports between 2005 and 2008. His career trajectory took him to JR Motorsports in 2009, followed by a successful stint in the IndyCar series with Team Penske, where he contributed to major triumphs such as Juan Pablo Montoya's second Indianapolis 500 win and Josef Newgarden's championship season in 2017.

Returning to Hendrick in 2022, Campe led the aerodynamic department. Now, as he transitions to Legacy Motor Club, Campe's arrival is poised to reinvigorate a team in need of experienced oversight and strategic guidance.

Commenting on his new role, Campe stated:

"I'm super excited to join LEGACY MOTOR CLUB and am looking forward to the opportunity and challenge ahead. I believe in the vision for LEGACY M.C. and hope to help build on the talent already in place and bring my experience to the organization so we can compete for wins at NASCAR's highest level.”

The need for this engineering infusion is apparent from Legacy Motor Club's recent performances. The Kansas Speedway race last September illustrated the team's struggles, with Erik Jones finishing 35th after starting 16th, and John Hunter Nemechek, despite a push from 31st, ending at 30th. Jimmie Johnson himself, navigating a part-time driving role, qualified 35th and crossed the finish line in 36th position.

Johnson also commented on Campe’s contract with the team, stating:

"The addition of a talent like Brian Campe is integral to the success of LEGACY M.C. Brian's experience with championship teams like Hendrick and Penske will make him a huge asset to LEGACY M.C., and we are eager to see the improvement his leadership will bring to the engineering arm of the Club."
