NASCAR awards show Dec. 2; Sting to headline musical acts image

NASCAR has a major rock star lined up for its annual awards show: Sting, the former lead singer of The Police and a dynamic solo artist.

News of the headline performer came via Billboard.com and a media release.

NASCAR will present its postseason awards on Dec. 2 in Las Vegas. The show is the capper for NASCAR Champions Week.

A full schedule of events has yet to be released.

The event honors the Sprint Cup series winners and others. Awards for the Xfinity and Truck Series will be distributed Nov. 21 in Miami. That's the day after the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship race at Homestead-Miami. The Truck Series title race will be run Nov. 18, with the Xfinity championship decided on Nov. 19.

All three series will settle their field of four drivers in races at Phoenix beginning Nov. 11.
