The Monster Energy Cup Series continued on Sunday from Watkins Glen, N.Y., at Go Bowling at the Glen as Chase Elliott held off Martin Truex Jr. for his first-career victory in the cup series.

Truex Jr. was looking to win his thrid-straight road race having won at Watkins Glen in 2017 and at Sonoma earlier this year. Last weekend's winner at the Gander Outdoors 400 at Pocono , Kyle Busch, notched a third-place finish and remains on top of the point standings.

The race started with Denny Hamlin at the pole position, with leader Kyle Busch right behind. Hamlin wound up finishing 13th.

Joey Logano was disqualifed 15 minutes into the race for pulling into the garage while he was on the crash clock. It was Logano's second DNF of his career.

In the end, it was a duel between Elliott and Truex Jr. as the two led the race for the final 30 laps. Heading into the last lap, Truex Jr. was eyeing to make a move on Elliott to take the lead, but ran out of gas on turn six allowing Elliott to pull away and pickup the victory.
