NASCAR at COTA results, highlights: Tyler Reddick holds on in OT, picks up first win for 23XI Racing image

Tyler Reddick is one of the better road course racers in the NASCAR Cup Series.

The rising star proved that again on Sunday as he rode 23XI Racing's speed to a decisive victory at Circuit of the Americas.

It was his first win for the Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin-owned organization and the fourth victory of his Cup Series career.

Reddick, who stepped into the No. 45 car this season to replace Kurt Busch, made things look easy, although there were a few sticky moments. Alex Bowman, William Byron and Kyle Busch all pulled tight at various points, but Reddick was fastest. And although his win wasn't quite straightforward — the race went into triple overtime — it was much-deserved.

Young drivers impressed Sunday, with pole-sitter William Byron, Ty Gibbs and Todd Gilliland all placing in the top 10. Their performances provided a window into the sport's future.

NASCAR at COTA live updates, highlights from 2023 race

(All times Eastern)

7:28 p.m.: Tyler Reddick takes the checkered flag! Busch, Bowman, Chastain and Byron finish out the top five. 23XI's cars continue to impress.

7:24 p.m.: Reddick a second in front of his competition. He'll be straight as long as there's no more funny business down beyond the field. White flag is out and it's looking like it'll be Reddick at the moment.

7:23 p.m.: Back to green at COTA. Reddick out in front again, although he's getting some serious pressure from Bowman.

7:13 p.m.: Back straightaway for Reddick, who leads by about a second over Busch. Just waiting for the white flag. And a caution flag is waved again, this time for debris! Another restart incoming.

7:12 p.m.: We are about to go to green. Front two rows are Reddick-Byron-Busch-Truex.

7:02 p.m.: Reddick in good shape with two laps remaining. He's got a 1.2 second edge over Busch. Blaney's tire pops, though, and that looks like it will be another caution. Disheartening stuff for Reddick, who was moments away from the white flag.

6:58 p.m.: Reddick flanked by Byron and Busch, among others. He's kept things clean throughout the race, so Chase Elliott (who is featuring as a guest analyst on today's broadcast) doesn't expect him to face too much dirty laundry.

6:52 p.m.: CAUTION! Austin Dillon pops his right front tire attempting to compete to get the one lap advantage. We are headed to overtime! Unfortunate situation for Reddick, who was in prime position to capture the checkered flag before then. Things should get interesting in the race restart, though.

6:51 p.m.: Reddick in decent shape as we approach the end of the race. Byron giving Reddick respect as they make their way through the turns, perhaps an indication of just how clean both racers have been.

6:49 p.m.: Reddick crosses over to get past Byron! Just five laps to go. Back-and-forth action in the final stage at COTA.

6:45 p.m.: Byron grabs the lead after yet another race restart, holding the slightest of edges over Reddick. Things getting tight on the turns as we speak. Just six laps to go.

6:38 p.m.: Race restart makes things that much more unnerving with eight laps left. Front row consists of Reddick and Christopher Bell.

6:28 p.m.: 11 laps left. The likes of Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin could probably get away without pitting.

6:19 p.m.: With 15 laps to go in the final stage, racers at the top of the board face a difficult dilemma: stay on the track or pit in advance of an overtime period that might not even come. Decisions, decisions...

6:11 p.m.: Allmendinger having some trouble with his radio. He's short on fuel and his team is trying to get creative, using some colorful tape to tell him what he needs to do.

6:10 p.m.: Ryan Preece's day ends after being docked with a pair of speeding violations.

6:00 p.m.: Back-and-forth between Reddick and Byron for the lead. Scintillating stuff from the pair of rising Cup Series talents.

5:30 p.m.: Reddick takes Stage 2! He's in a tight contest with the likes of Allmendinger, Square and Byron.

5:03 p.m.: Taylor with his first-ever NASCAR pit stop. He looked like a pro out there, getting his tires and fuel taken care of with relative ease.

5:01 p.m.: Byron three-quarters of a second in front of second-place Cindric. Allmendinger not too far behind, either. The No. 16 driver is among the Cup Series' best road course racers.

Eight laps remaining in Stage 2.

4:55 p.m.: Blaney suffers some contact with Larson, sending him to pit road. Gnarly hit for the Team Penske racer.

4:47 p.m.: We go back to green and it's Byron who is credited with the Stage 1 win. We're immediately into Stage 2, with the No. 24 car being joined in the front of the pack by Cindric and A.J. Allmendinger.

4:39 p.m.: Two laps remaining. Reddick headed to pit road. Seems he had this move pre-planned. Will be interesting to see if it works out for the 23XI driver.

4:30 p.m.: Bubba Wallace makes major contact with Kyle Larson heading into the turn. The No. 23 car just couldn't make the stop as he pulled in towards the curve. Caution flag waved. Larson and Wallace might be in trouble.

4:25 p.m.: Fierce fight between Reddick, Cindric and Byron for first place. Looks like it'll be Reddick who edges out in front as we hit Lap 9. Seven more laps before the end of Stage 1, which will immediately lead into Stage 2, as opposed to the typical stage breaks which feature drivers heading to pit road.

4:20 p.m.: Chase Briscoe absorbs some contact on Turn 1, spinning his car around. Could've been much worse but he falls far down the field as a result.

4:17 p.m.: Back to green in Austin. It's Austin Cindric leading the way. Taylor looked like he locked up his front right tire trying to avoid Hendrick Motorsports teammate Bowman. He drops outside the top ten as he looks to recuperate.

4:09 p.m.: Jimmie done for the day. Unfortunate sight for those hoping to see the GOAT do his thing on the road course.

3:59 p.m.: CAUTION! Multiple contact between Turns 19 and 20. Brad Keselowski and Jimmie Johnson among those involved. Just one lap down and we're already seeing the chaos COTA can bring.

3:57 p.m.: And we're off at COTA! Slow start but it's Byron and Reddick leading the way on the front row.

3:53 p.m.: Baking day in Austin. Should make the course that much slicker, adding to the race's difficulties.

3:49 p.m.: Some racing dignitaries here at COTA, with Jordan Taylor, Kimi Raikonnen and Jordan Taylor all taking part. Should be a good race here at COTA.

3:35 p.m.: Ross Chastain has some great watermelon-throwing form. Check out this television spot he did with Clint Bowyer and Bob Pockrass.

3:32 p.m.: National anthem up now. Overrated track. You know what's not? COTA, the site of today's race!

3:31 p.m.: Sage Steele leading the pre-race prayer. Pretty apt. Even a bit of pro-America propaganda. Not ideal.

3:27 p.m.: One driver headed to the rear: Michael McDowell, who needed a few adjustments to his No. 34 car prior to the race.

3:16 p.m.: Moments away from the race's start. Jimmie Johnson returns to the field in the No. 84 car. Will be interesting to see how the all-time great does today.
