Former NASCAR driver Bobby East, 37, fatally stabbed in California image

Former NASCAR driver Bobby East was fatally stabbed outside a 76 gas station in Westminster, California on Wednesday. He was 37 years old.

The Westminster Police Department announced East's death in a Wednesday news release, in which he remained unidentified. According to the release, East was found with a "serious stab wound to the chest area."

"Officers attempted life saving measures until OCFA paramedics arrived and transported the victim to a local trauma center, where the victim succumbed to his injury."

Westminster police named 27-year-old Trent William Millsap as a suspect in the stabbing. Per the release, he had an outstanding parole warrant.

East, son of USAC Hall of Famer Bob East, raced in NASCAR's Xfinity (formerly Nationwide) and Camping World Truck (formerly Craftsman Truck) series from 2005 through 2008. He was most successful as a driver in the United States Auto Club. According to a USAC release announcing his death, East had 22 USAC National Midget feature wins and 56 USAC-sanctioned feature victories, 48 of them in national divisions.

He won the USAC National Midgets championship in 2004 and back-to-back USAC Silver Crown championships in 2012 and 2013.
