NASCAR Hall of Famer Darrell Waltrip has an idea — how about moving the NASCAR All-Star Race to the fierce short track in Bristol?
Waltrip suggested making the move during an appearance this week, according to The Tennessean. It's not a new idea, that of moving the annual event, but it would be interesting to see drivers take on the idea of running it at the half-mile oval.

"I feel like, and I can get away with this because Bruton [Smith] owns both racetracks, I feel like that the all-star race should be at Bristol," said Waltrip, a three-time Cup champion, according to the report. "It's only been moved from Charlotte once — but if I were going to move it somewhere, I would move it to Bristol. You're talking about some excitement.
"Can you imagine a race at Bristol, 70 laps for a million dollars to win? You're talking about some bent-up sheet metal, some hurt feelings, and that TV that's overhead, put a boxing ring right underneath of it, because you're going to need it."
Charlotte Motor Speedway has been host site for the All-Star race every year since the inaugural running in 1985 — which Waltrip won — with one exception. In 1986, the All-Star race was at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
NASCAR runs this week at Martinsville. This year's Bristol Cup races are April 17 and Aug. 20. The All-Star Race is May 20, a night after the Sprint Showdown and a week before the Coca-Cola 600.
