Everyone knows that every point matters when drivers are in a championship showdown. If not, Brendan Gaughan made that clear on Saturday as he raced back to his car after a crash in the Xfinity Series race at Kansas Speedway.

Gaughan’s mad dash became a viral sensation in the hours since it aired on NBC's broadcast.

For the record, Gaughan finished 31st at Kansas and is now seventh in the Xfinity Chase standings, 29 behind the leader and 17 behind Justin Allgaier, who holds the fourth and final transfer spot. There are two more Xfinity races before the field is halved to four.

His run continued to be an inspiring moment as the Sprint Cup Chase race at Kansas neared its start on Sunday. For the record, Gaughan is one of the most personable drivers in the series.
