Add another milestone win to Wes Welker's resume.
Undrafted, a horse owned by Welker, won in Saturday's Diamond Jubilee Stakes at the prestigious Royal Ascot in England, beating off stiff competition from Australian hopeful Brazen Beau.
The closing stages became a battle between America and Australia, but jockey Frankie Dettori held the 14-1 Undrafted back of the pack before timing his move for the line perfectly in the final furlong.
"It's unbelievable — (trainer) Wesley (Ward) is a very good friend of mine, a big supporter of mine and nothing gives me more pleasure than winning for him," Dettori said after the race.
"I didn't want to kick so soon. I was going so well, every time he finishes strong so I saved him and he proved me right. On the line I knew I'd won."
Undrafted, a 5-year-old gelding, took home $472,852 with the win, but also made bettors happy with his $34.80 payout per $2 win bet.

Welker entered the National Football League as an undrafted wide receiver from Texas Tech. He became a standout at that position and as a return man. In addition to his first team, the San Diego Chargers, Welker played for the Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots and Denver Broncos. At 34, it's not certain his NFL career will continue in 2015.
