Ag2r-La Mondiale's Alexis Vuillermoz delighted the home crowd by pulling away in the last 700 meters to claim Saturday's Stage 8 of the Tour de France.
At the end of the 181.5-kilometer route from Rennes to Mur de Bretagne, Vuillermoz mounted an impressive attack on the closing climb and finished five seconds in front.

Daniel Martin of Cannondale-Garmin was second. Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) took third, a further five seconds back along with the peloton.
That group included yellow jersey holder Chris Froome of Team Sky, who maintained his 11-second advantage over Peter Sagan of Tinkoff-Saxo.
Reigning Tour champion Vincenzo Nibali lost 10 seconds on Froome.
Stage 8, however, belonged to Vuillermoz.
"I put my head down and pedaled for all I was worth and it's just about now that I'm beginning to realize I have won the stage," he said. "It's the sort of climb that really suits me and so I really felt good about today. Everyone has their specialty and this was mine today."
Martin, meanwhile, appeared frustrated as he crossed the line, seemingly annoyed at a missed opportunity to win a stage.
"I was on the wrong side of the group," he said. "I saw the Ag2r guy go but I just couldn't get out. When I did it was too late and I'm really disappointed because the guys rode so well and they kept me out of trouble, relaxed, and they believed in me. We'll try again.
"Everyone was stuck on the right-hand barrier, I was on the right-hand barrier and there was nowhere to go."
