Simona Halep claimed her fifth title of the year with a straight-sets win over Samantha Stosur in the WTA Kremlin Cup final on Sunday.
The 22-year-old Romanian was on top form as she overcame an opponent ranked one place below her at 19 in the world in one hour and 41 minutes with a score of 7-6 (7-1), 6-2.
Halep's victory on the Russian hard courts illustrates her versatility, as she has already won tournaments on grass and clay this year.
Stosur was put on the back foot from the off, and while she managed to match Halep game for game, she was defeated comprehensively in the tie-break.
The Australian struggled to recover from losing the tie-break and was comfortably beaten in the second set as she won just 53 per cent of points on her first serve.
And Halep, who saved just three of her five break points in the match, spoke of her delight after the match.
"It's an incredible year for me and I am enjoying every moment of it," she said.
"Now I already have all of my thoughts about the Tournament of Champions in Sofia.
"It's a very special event for me and I'm preparing thoroughly for it and hope to perform there at my top level."
