CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Sporting News has announced a partnership with You Can Play to bring monthly stories of LGBT athletes and allies to the millions of sportingnews.com readers.

From You Can Play President Patrick Burke and Executive Director Wade Davis:

Our partnership with Sporting News will provide LGBT and allied athletes a new platform to share their stories with new and diverse audiences. There are a great many LGBT voices that have difficulty finding platforms to share their stories and experiences with the larger sports community. In addition, there are many issues within the LGBT sports community that are ignored or otherwise dismissed by mainstream sports media. Thanks to our friends and partners at the Sporting News, we hope to continue to spark engaging dialogue between Sporting News current readers and the LGBT sports community at large, by providing space for athletes, coaches, and fans to share their lived experiences.

From Sporting News Editorial Director John Turner:

Our mission at Sporting News is to provide readers with unique and engaging content they won’t get anywhere else. By partnering with You Can Play, our audience will get access into issues affecting the LGBT community from authentic voices around sports. We’re excited to offer these individuals the national platform they deserve.
