Simona Halep injury update: Indian Wells target for return from sore ribs image

Simona Halep is confident of overcoming a rib injury in time to compete at Indian Wells next month.

The world number three was forced to withdraw from this week's Qatar Open, a setback as she bids to build momentum after her victory at the Dubai Tennis Championships on Saturday, her second title success of 2015.

Halep expects to make a swift recovery for a California tournament that begins March 9.

"Normally it's like 10 days to recover and then I will be okay to play," she told the WTA's official website.

"I hope to play Indian Wells 100 per cent."

On missing the Qatar Open, she added: "I'm very disappointed because it's a very important tournament for me.

"Last year here I won my first big title. This tournament gave me a lot of confidence for the rest of the season.

"It's always tough when you have to withdraw because of pain. I just have to take care of my body and look forward to the next tournaments coming up.

"Yes it's a big injury, and it's the first time I have had this problem, but I'll take the positives from Dubai and I hope to be recovered from it soon."
