The 3-year-old thoroughbred has an elevated white blood cell count that will prevent him from running in the Belmont Stakes on June 11, according to the Daily Racing Form. The Derby winner has been under the weather recently, at times running a slight fever of 102 degrees (a normal temperature for a horse is 99-101 F).

As of Monday night, Nyquist's fever was down, according to the report, but the blood sample drawn that day came back with a high white blood cell count, which sometimes indicates an infection.

Nyquist suffered his first career loss last weekend as Exaggerator won the Preakness Stakes, the second leg of thoroughbred racing's Triple Crown at Pimlico in Baltimore. Nyquist has won eight of nine races, including the Kentucky Derby at the beginning of the month.

Exaggerator is scheduled to ship to Belmont in New York later in the week.
