Australian surfer Mick Fanning has returned to the water, less than a week after a close encounter with a shark in South Africa.
The 34-year-old survived a brush with death when a shark swam at Fanning, who was competing in the J-Bay Open final at Jeffreys Bay on Sunday.

Back home at Tweed Heads, New South Wales, Fanning returned to the open water with board in hand — posting a photo of himself by the shoreside on Instagram, which had received more than 40,000 likes.
Fanning also paid tribute to the late Andy Irons, who died in 2010 and would have celebrated his 37th birthday Saturday.
