Madison Keys will miss the Australian Open after undergoing wrist surgery, she announced Friday, but also had good news to share.
The world's eighth-ranked player plans to be reunited with coach Lindsay Davenport upon her return, a development she said "I am very excited about."

Keys in 2016 enjoyed the best year of her career, surging into the top 10 in the rankings for the first time and qualifying for the season-ending WTA Finals in Singapore. However, the 21-year-old American recently underwent arthroscopic surgery on her left wrist, which will cause her to miss the first grand slam of 2017, which begins Jan. 16 in Melbourne.

"Have some good news and bad news to share. Good (actually, AMAZING!) news is that Lindsay Davenport will be my coach again," Keys said in a statement posted on Twitter 12 months after splitting with the three-time major singles champion. "I am very excited about working with Lindsay again as she's helped me reach great results in the past and we make an excellent team!
"The bad news is that I will not be ready to play the 2017 Australian Open. Three days after the year-end WTA Championships I had minor arthroscopic surgery on my left wrist; the procedure was very short, did not involve any tendon issues, and went very well.
"While I've been training with Lindsay and at USTA in Orlando for a few weeks, I don't want to rush back and need to take my time to be fully ready to perform my best on the court. I will be back soon and can't wait to compete again."
