Slater, who was nearby, quick rushed into action, saving the two from the powerful surge of waves.

Photographer Chris White, whose wife and son were rescued by Slater, thanked Slater for his heroic efforts in a thoughtful Instagram post.

The 43-year old Slater then responded the White in the Instagram comments.

For those familiar with Slater, this should not come as a surprise. He is among the most well-liked and well-respected people in the action sports community.
