Jens Voigt has set a new mark in cycling's historic Hour Record, racing 51.1 kilometers (31.7 miles) around a velodrome.
Ending his career with a record attempt one day after his 43rd birthday, the German rider beat the 49.7-kilometer (30.8-mile) mark of Ondrej Sosenka in 2005.
Voigt passed the Czech Republic rider's distance with almost 1 1/2 minutes left.
The Hour Record was previously held by cycling greats Fausto Coppi, Jacques Anquetil and Eddy Merckx.
Voigt says, "I am extremely proud to be joining all the iconic riders that have beaten this record before me."
The Trek Factory Racing rider holds two cycling records, after this year equaling the mark of starting the Tour de France 17 times.
