Jason Day appears to reinjure back in first round at The Barclays image

Jason Day was among leaders in the first morning of FedEx Cup competition, but his play at The Barclays appeared to be affected by injury.

Day was in trouble early, however, after injuring his back on Tuesday. He appeared to have a flair-up while playing the 12th hole.

Day finished his round at 2 under. The only blemish on his scorecard was a bogey on a bogey on No. 16.

Day has a history of health problems, including back and hand injuries and a battle with vertigo. The latter struck him at the U.S. Open, when he collapsed on the course.

Day withdrew from Wednesday's pro-am event to tend to his sore back.

FedEx Cup rules would allow Day to drop out of the competition and return for the second of four tourneys, as long as his points total remained in the field's top 100.

Day comes off his victory in the PGA championship and appeared to be dialed in during the early holes.
