Jackie Robinson West lawyer calls Little League 'deceitful and dishonest' image

Jackie Robinson West’s lawsuit against Little League International isn’t dead, but it could be on its last legs.

An attorney for the Chicago team says it isn’t done fighting the sanctioning body over its decision to strip the team of its 2014 national title.

"Through its recent legal filings, Little League has chosen to be deceitful and dishonest by withholding material and critical information," the lawyer, Victor Henderson, told The Associated Press.

The team was stripped of the title after it was discovered several players lived outside the league's geographical boundaries. Little League officials initially declined to strip JRW of the title, but later did. Attorneys for Jackie Robinson West later sued the organization in an attempt to find out the names of the whistleblowers.

The team's lawyers filed a motion last Wednesday to withdraw their complaint, one day before Little League International submitted documents that purportedly show JRW officials changed the league's boundaries after the team won the title.

Henderson vows to keep the legal fight going.

"Instead of taking a transparent and honest approach, Little League is acting like a corporate conglomerate doing everything it can to protect its image and financial interests," he said. "This is a travesty, especially because little kids are the ones who are taking the brunt of their tactic.

"Legal disputes, just like baseball games, don't take place in one inning. For now, I simply encourage everyone to be patient. The game is far from over."
