Canada's Eugenie Bouchard is determined to build on an impressive 2014 by winning her first grand slam this year.

Bouchard, 20, emerged as a force by reaching her first grand slam final at Wimbledon, in which she was beaten by Petra Kvitova, and the semifinals of the Australian Open and the French Open.

She is preparing for the Australian Open, which starts on Jan. 19, by playing in the Hopman Cup in Perth, Australia. She is eager to take her game to the next level in 2015.

Of her success in grand slam tournaments, Bouchard said: "I don't know if I expected it so quickly or so close together.

"I've always believed in myself, I knew I could achieve things like that — I want to achieve even more, I want to win a grand slam. I'm was definitely proud of myself for how I improved so quickly."

However, what's done is done.

"To me it's 2015, we're starting at a new place," she said. "What I did last year doesn't mean anything.

"I still have to go and play my first round at the Australian Open and fight as hard as I can and try to play as well as I can. I'm going to use last year's experiences, but I'm not going to worry about what I did last year and trying to defend.

"It's really not the kind of mentality I want."

The Australian Open begins Jan. 19.
