"Congrats to Jon "Bones" Jones on his reinstatement to the UFC," Cormier said. "For MMA fans this is a good day. A guy that has shown to be one of the greatest fighters of all time is back. As a competitor there could be no other outcome and this is the best news I've heard in a long time. Jon has said the right things and his actions are backing his words up. We all hope this is the last time we have to deal with anything like that. And lastly as a fan u get to see see 2 of the best fighters compete against each other. With that being said I can't wait to compete against him again."

Jones defeated Cormier by unanimous decision at UFC 182 to retain his championship, but was stripped of the belt and suspended from the UFC in April after being involved in a hit-and-run accident in Albuquerque, N.M. He pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident in September and was sentenced to 18 months' probation. Jones was reinstated by the UFC on Friday.

In the meantime, Cormier defeated Anthony "Rumble" Johnson at UFC 187 for Jones' vacated championship. He then successfully defended the title against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 192.

Before the Gustafsson fight, Cormier made it known that he wants a rematch with Jones.

"Honestly, I want to fight Jones again," Cormier told Sporting News. "For my legacy to be fully complete, I need to fight him again. If I was injured and I had no choice in the matter and I had to walk away from this sport, then I'd look at my career and my accomplishments: winning the Strikeforce championship, winning the UFC championship and I would be good. I can actually go forward into my life and be OK."

Fans should expect the fight sometime in 2016, possibly at the UFC 200 pay-per-view on July 9.
