Team USA opened a commanding 4-1 lead over the Internationals on day one of the Presidents Cup in Incheon, South Korea.

Louis Oosthuizen and Branden Grace's 3 and 2 win over Matt Kuchar and Patrick Reed aside, it was a day of American dominance at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club.

The other four foursomes saw Team USA blow their competition out of the water to open up the biggest first-day lead in eight years.

Team USA has won the first day in all of the last five Cups — going on to win the trophy each time.

"This is wonderful," USA captain Jay Haas said. "The guys played really, really well. We're ecstatic to get off to this start. We hope to keep the pedal down."

Rickie Fowler and Jimmy Walker's 5 and 4 thrashing of Anirban Lahiri and Thongchai Jaidee set the tone and that was backed up by Bubba Watson and J.B. Holmes' 3 and 2 win over Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama, which saw the American pair lead from the second hole.

Though the Internationals fought back through South African pair Oosthuizen and Grace, the American advantage was swiftly restored as the stellar pairing of world No. 1 Jordan Spieth and major rival Dustin Johnson defeated Danny Lee and Marc Leishman 4 and 3.

Jason Day led the fight for the Internationals as a 30-foot birdie putt ensured at least one match-up would go the distance.

However, the Australian's efforts alongside Steven Bowditch were in vain as Phil Mickleson and Zach Johnson held on for a 2-up win, giving Team USA all the momentum.

"I know we're behind," Grace said. "But one point is better than none."

Grace and Oosthuizen will face Spieth and Johnson in Friday's opening fourball match.

Friday fourballs: Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson vs. Louis Oosthuizen and Branden Grace, Rickie Fowler and Jimmy Walker vs. Danny Lee and Bae Sang-moon, Zach Johnson and Phil Mickelson vs. Adam Scott and Jason Day, J.B. Holmes and Bubba Watson vs. Marc Leishman and Steven Bowditch, Bill Haas and Chris Kirk vs. Charl Schwartzel and Thongchai Jaidee.
