2014 Sochi Olympics: Chief exec confident despite security fears image

All preparations have been completed ahead of the Sochi Winter Olympics, according to the organizing committee president.

He paints a far rosier picture than western media, which is highlighting reports of security fears in the wake of recent terror attacks in Russia. There also have been concerns of rushed final preparations and how the host nation will handle protests against its law against homosexuality.

With a month remaining until the event gets under way, president and CEO Dmitry Chernyshenko claims all is in order and that everything is "ready."

Russia's emergency situations minister, Vladimir Puchkov, confirmed on Tuesday that security divisions at the Games had been put on "combat alert" with measures rolled out to protect guests.

Chernyshenko added that the committee is in "full Olympic mode" and ready to be put on a great spectacle.

"We are ready and in full Olympic mode. Every sport venue is fully prepared and has been thoroughly tested, new road and rail routes are ready to transport visitors and rehearsals for the opening ceremony are well under way," he said.

"Athletes, coaches and the media have all received their official accreditations and are gearing up to travel to Sochi, where our volunteers and staff will give them the warmest of welcomes."

Russia president Vladimir Putin increased security following two suicide bomb attacks that led to casualties in Volgograd last month.
