The reigning UFC lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev is looking to prove he has what it takes to take out a game Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 284 on February 11. He is ready and willing to step out of his comfort zone.
UFC 284 takes place inside the RAC Center in Perth, Australia. It is the home area of Volkanovski, the UFC featherweight champion.
A sambo world champion, Makhachev has won eleven fights via submission. In 12 wins in the UFC, he has won six via submission and two via knockout. He submitted Charles Oliveira in October to claim the lightweight title. Makhachev wants to end the fight early, avoiding any upsets and showing why Volkanovski is out of his league.
LIVE UPDATES, RESULTS AND HIGHLIGHTS FROM UFC 284
“Honestly, I want to knock him out,” Makhachev told ESPN Deportes’ Carlos Contreras Legaspi. “Everybody says Islam is a grappler or wrestler. But I want to show people my striking. He’s a short guy, and I really believe I can knock him out. This (weight) is not his area. Coming from other division. It is not the same power, not the same. He's going to understand this.”

Volkanovski is on a 12-fight win streak in the UFC. Three of those wins have come via knockout. His power is other-worldly, as his volume of shots can damage an opponent. “The Great” has defended the UFC featherweight title four times. He is ready to join the rare hall of two-division champions in the UFC.
