BKFC champion "Platinum" Mike Perry is currently gearing up for a July 20 boxing match with Jake Paul, but has also recently been in talks for a fight with Dillon Danis.
Perry, who previously competed for the UFC, opened up on the plans for a fight with Danis in a recent interview with MMA Fighting, explaining that the fight would be contested under MMA rules, and that it could still happen after he meets Paul in the ring.
“I was still looking at that Dillon Danis fight," Perry said. "That wasn’t going to be a boxing match because we all saw how he performed in boxing [against Logan Paul]. I don’t want any excuses. I was supposed to fight him after I beat up Jake Paul, but after I beat Jake Paul, let’s be honest, I could just chill out for a bit and let things unravel around me.”
Danis is a decorated Brazilian jiu jitsu practitioner who attained MMA prominence as a chief training partner of Conor McGregor. While he has not competed under MMA rules since he improved to 2-0 with a submission of Max Humphrey in 2019, he was involved in a high profile boxing match with Jake's older brother Logan last year.
Despite weeks of virulent trash talk heading into the fight, Danis offered little in the way of offense in the ring, and was ultimately disqualified after he attempted a takedown in round six.
After that poor showing, Perry only seems to be interested in fighting the grappler under MMA rules, and is very confident he could win under those circumstances.
“I was going to knee him in the face and elbow him,” Perry said. “If he gives up his back, I would have tried to go for the choke. Why not? I ain’t got a submission before, I like to punch people. I am very highly skilled in MMA. It might just be something that I take to the grave, those skills."
After parting ways with the UFC in 2021, Perry partook in a special rules boxing match with Michael Seals. He then signed with BKFC in early 2022, and after wins over Julian Lane, Michael "Venom" Page, Luke Rockhold, Eddie Alvarez and Thiago Alves, can safely be called the face of the promotion.
His boxing match with Paul came together after the social media star's planned bout with Mike Tyson fell apart last month.
Danis' two previous MMA fights both occurred under the Bellator banner. His disastrous boxing match with Logan Paul was his first and only appearance in the ring.
