Late MMA fighter Kimbo Slice needed a heart transplant, according to a report by the medical examiner in Broward County, Fla.
Slice, whose real name was Kevin Ferguson, died Monday at Northwest Medical Center in Margate, Fla. He was admitted on June 3, according to The Sun Sentinel. The newspaper reported he was complaining of severe abdominal pain, shortness of breath and nausea.

A liver mass was discovered and Slice fell into congestive heart failure. He was then placed on a ventilator in the intensive care unit. Doctors told Ferguson's family he needed a transplant. He was scheduled to be moved to a facility in Cleveland, where he would have been placed on an organ donor list.

Slice tested positive for a steroid after his last fight Feb. 19, but the medical examiner's report said he had no history of illicit drug use and no foul play was not suspected in his death. An autopsy will not be performed.
Slice was scheduled to headline Bellator 158 on July 16 in London against James Thompson.
