Conor McGregor has teased fans by posting an edited photo on Twitter of him and Floyd Mayweather Jr. squaring up to one another amid rumors of a future fight between the pair.

Reports emerged last week claiming McGregor is on the verge of agreeing a lucrative bout with retired former five-division world champion Mayweather.

McGregor, the UFC featherweight champion, was removed from the UFC 200 card after a disagreement over his promotional duties. But he fueled speculation by posting a picture altered to show himself looking Mayweather in the eyes along with the phrase: "MMA Vs Boxing."

On Friday, McGregor coach John Kavanagh uploaded a photo of a sunny day, adding a playful caption.

McGregor and Mayweather exchanged insults in the past, which has only increased talk of a clash down the line.

However, UFC president Dana White seemingly dismissed any potential fight between the two when he said: "It's not true; it's just a tabloid story. As far as I knew, Floyd is retired and he's been on a world-wide vacation and hasn't even been thinking of fighting."

McGregor has also posted cryptic social media messages, with a hint at retirement and suggestions that he was back on the UFC 200 card both proving to be untrue.
