Tommy Thompson's first MLS goal was a long time in the making.
In his 64th career league appearance the San Jose Earthquakes midfielder finally opened his league account, latching onto a deflected pass and burying a shot from inside the box in a match at Atlanta United on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old has long been regarded as one of the league's most talented young players, but has yet to put together a consistent run of form in his MLS career.
On May 17, Thompson tallied his first career assist, which was quickly followed by his second ever MLS assist two games later.
