Last season, the Colorado Rapids had a dream MLS season. In 2017, things have become a nightmare.
Sitting well out of a playoff spot in the Western Confernece, this past week saw the club fire head coach Pablo Mastroeni. But if the hope was for an immediate change of fortune, things did not get much better Saturday night against D.C. United.
In the 27th minute of the contest, Jared Watts attempted to play a back pass to Tim Howard from near midfield. The goalkeeper was unable to get to it, with the ball appearing to take an awkward bounce past him and into the net.
Even D.C. United's twitter account couldn't help but appreciate the 'gift' the team had been handed.

That turned out to be the only goal of the game, as D.C. United got a 1-0 road win.
The loss leaves the Rapids 12 points out of a playoff spot.
