The Vancouver Whitecaps announced Tuesday that midfielder-forward Yordy Reyna has undergone surgery for a fifth metatarsal fracture of his left foot.

Reyna, who was signed from Red Bull Salzburg in the offseason, suffered the injury in a friendly against the Portland Timbers on Feb. 15. He will now be sidelined until at least early summer.

“Yordy was only with the group for a few weeks before his unfortunate injury but quickly showed his attacking quality and dynamic play,” Whitecaps head coach Carl Robinson said in a news release. “We’re happy to hear the surgery went well and anticipate he will be back to full training at the start of summer."

Reyna, 23, has been capped 17 times by Peru, scoring two goals.
