Real Salt Lake opens up their 2024 Leagues Cup journey against the 2022 Clausura Mexican champions.

Pablo Mastroeni and his Real Salt Lake side host Liga MX side Atlas on Thursday, August 1 at America First Field in Sandy, Utah. It's the first match for RSL since July 20, having enjoyed some time off with the All Star break and the later start for them in Leagues Cup.

Atlas won their opener last Saturday, 1-0, against the Houston Dynamo in Houston, with Rivaldo Lozano scoring the game-winning goal.

This will be the last game for Real Salt Lake without their star striker Cristian "Chicho" Arango, who was suspended for four games by MLS for violating the league's anti-harassment policy.

Arango has 17 goals in 23 matches for RSL this season, leading MLS in the scoring charts.

Real Salt Lake vs. Atlas lineups & team news

It's one more match for RSL to endure without their star striker Cristian "Chicho" Arango. Winger Andres Gomez scored twice for RSL in their last match and he, along with playmaker Diego Luna, will be relied on to create chances against a talented Atlas team.

Real Salt Lake projected starting lineup (4-3-3): MacMath (GK) — Brody, Glad, Vera, Oviedo — Eneli, Crooks, Ojeda — Gomez, Julio, Luna.

Atlas coach Benat San Jose isn't afraid to go to youth. 20-year-old midfielder Victor Rios started in central midfield against the Dynamo in Atlas' 1-0 win. Against Real Salt Lake, we can expect to see Jose Lozano and Mateo Garcia back in the starting lineup, and potentially even an appearance from former Brazil youth prodigy Doria in the backline.

Atlas projected starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Vargas (GK) — Zaldivar, Doria, Lozano, Mora — Rocha, Garcia —  Murillo, Marquez, Fulgencio — Aguirre.
