New York City FC announced Friday that fullback/winger Ronald Matarrita will miss the next 3-4 months recovering from surgery on his right fifth metatarsal.
Matarrita suffered the injury early in the first half of NYCFC's match against Minnesota United on Thursday, a 3-1 win at Yankee Stadium.

“Everyone at the club will be supporting Ronald and is looking forward to having him join us back on the field once he is ready," NYCFC head coach Patrick Vieira said in a news release. "He is a fantastic professional and we know he will work exceptionally hard with our medical team to come back fitter and stronger than ever.”
Matarrita, 22, has appeared in nine regular season matches for NYCFC this season, with three assists. A Costa Rica international, he was named to his country's 23-man roster for next month's CONCACAF Gold Cup prior to the injury.
