LA Galaxy midfielder Jermaine Jones will be sidelined three to four weeks with a knee injury, the club announced Monday.
MLS Wrap: Newcomers keep shining
Diagnosed with a grade 2 MCL sprain, the U.S. national team veteran faces a race to return in time for World Cup qualifiers against Trinidad and Tobago on June 8 and Mexico on June 11.
Jones exited because of the injury in the 43rd minute of the Galaxy's 2-2 draw with the Chicago Fire on Saturday.
The 35-year-old, who has started three of four matches for the U.S. in the Hexagonal stage of World Cup qualifying, has recorded one goal and two assists in eight matches this MLS campaign.
With Jones suspended, U.S. coach Bruce Arena pushed winger Christian Pulisic into a central role for a 6-0 win over Honduras in March. Jones started the subsequent 1-1 draw against Panama, with Kellyn Acosta replacing him in the 75th minute.
