D.C. United goalkeeper Bill Hamid will be sidelined for six weeks after undergoing right knee surgery, the club confirmed Wednesday.
The 26-year-old aggravated his right meniscus while preparing for the U.S. national team's January camp, which he withdrew from last week. It's the same knee Hamid had surgically repaired last winter, forcing him to miss the first 12 games of the 2016 MLS campaign.

Hamid is poised to sit out most of preseason following the surgery, with his status for United's MLS opener against Sporting Kansas City on March 4 in question.
Third-year professional Travis Worra, who started 13 matches last season, is set to fill in as the No. 1 while Hamid recovers. United's roster also features U.S. Under-23 international Charlie Horton, and the club drafted Monmouth goalkeeper Eric Klenofsky in the second round of the MLS draft Friday.
The Washington Post was the first to report Hamid's surgery, with a United representative later confirming the news to Goal.
