The Philadelphia Phillies have been eliminated from the postseason by the New York Mets. They will now turn the page to the offseason.
The Phillies will have many key players hitting free agency this offseason, including flamethrower Carlos Estévez. When predicting which Phillies would not return, FanSided's Zach Pressnell predicted Carlos Estévez to land with the highest bidder.
"To preface, I think the Phillies should try to bring him back. Estevez is a great arm and he would be a good piece for them to have," wrote Pressnell. "But Estevez is likely to land with the highest bidder and after allowing the homer that ended their season, some fans might not even want to see him back."
Estévez came on in relief of Jeff Hoffman in the eighth inning of Game 4 of the National League Division Series. Estévez allowed the grand slam to Lindor, which put the Mets in front for good.
"Besides that one pitch, Estevez has been great. He's likely played himself into a relatively large contract this offseason," wrote Pressnell. "He owes no loyalty to the Phillies and I would expect to see him land with whichever team is going to give him the most money. Considering all the holes that Philly will address this offseason, they may not have the money to overpay him."
Spotrac projects Estévez to earn a three-year, $42 million contract in free agency. Estévez came over from the Los Angeles Angels at the trade deadline and was a steady force for the Phillies. He had a 2.57 ERA in 20 games as a member of the Phillies.
"Estevez routinely touches 100 MPH with his fastball, and he's shown the ability to be pretty tough to square up," wrote Pressnell. "But he was the one that threw the pitch to Lindor that ended the team's season."
