The Philadelphia Phillies are currently the top team in Major League Baseball and look like early frontrunners for the World Series. Still, there are ways for the club to guarantee their success this postseason.

One way to do this would be by acquiring an additional pitcher. While Philadelphia has one of the best rotations in the league, there have been reports that the Phillies "are looking for upgrades."

This has caused Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report to theorize that they could be looking at Detroit Tigers All-Star ace Tarik Skubal.

"The Phillies acquiring Skubal would be the ultimate case of president of baseball operations David Dombrowski leaving nothing to chance," Rymer said. "He loves star players, and adding another one to this roster would only make the Phillies even more of a favorite to win it all."

Skubal currently boasts a league-best 2.52 ERA and almost seven times as many strikeouts as walks over 203.1 innings, leading Rymer to say that Skubal has a "claim to the throne of Best Pitcher in Baseball."

However, trading for Skubal would come with a pretty hefty price tag, something the Phillies could afford. Rymer proposed Philadelphia trade its top three prospects (OF Justin Crawford, RHP Andrew Painter, and 3B Aidan Miller) to match Skubal's value.

The trade may seem like a stretch for a team so comfortably in the lead. However, anything could happen when a club is in pursuit of the World Series.
